Villagers of Nacula have already started evacuating vulnerable families who reside by the banks of the Labasa River.

The Labasa River broke its bank at around 7am today inundating the lower end of the village with floodwaters.

Resident Sera Vula said six families, including the elderly and children, have been moved to their community hall.

She said the men had prepared the hall yesterday in readiness for the prevailing weather condition

The others are on high alert and monitoring the water level in the river as they expect this to rise further with the high tide at around 1pm.

When this edition went to press, Ms Matanimeke said water was now entering higher parts of the village ground a short while ago.

Livestock, she said had been moved to safer ground.
