We want our children to be educated but I am also scared of sending my daughter to school because of the increase in COVID-19 cases, says Usha Naidu.
The Waidranudranu settlement, Tavakubu, Lautoka mother said she was prepared to send her daughter to school next week provided there was assurance of her safety.
She said she feared for her daughter’s health and safety because she would meet children from other places once classes resumed next Monday.
“The safety of our children is important,” she said.
“When my daughter is home, I know she is safe and now with the cases increasing again, it is really risky.
“It was good when they were having online classes and teachers distributed worksheets, in that way I know my daughter is safe.
“I do hope something will be done and a better decision made for the safety of our children.”
Another parent of the same settlement, Pooja Devi Nair, said her daughter, a Year 9 student, resumed studies this week.
The mother of five said despite their struggles, she bought hand sanitisers to protect her daughter in school.
Ms Nair said she reminded her daughter every morning to stay away from her friends and to follow COVID-safe protocols while in school.
