Reddy: No caste, dowry system in Fiji

There is no caste and dowry system in Fiji, says Agriculture Minister Dr Mahendra Reddy.

He made the comment at a religious gathering in Rakiraki last Saturday night.

Dr Reddy was speaking at the annual pooja ceremony at the Korotale temple.

“We have one language, there is no dowry system here and there is no caste system here,” he said.

“In India, these three things are impossible, it’s very difficult.

“How was the caste system removed in Fiji?

“How was the dowry system removed in Fiji?

“How do you all have only one language?

“Whenever we all meet, be it from Gujarati, Islam or Hindu, we all speak the same language, the Fiji-Hindi.

“I want our society to remain like this and I want our society to have unity. If we don’t have unity, society will break up.”
