Vanua Levu chiefs say Ratu Wiliame Katonivere is the right man for the job.
They made the comment soon after Speaker of Parliament Ratu Epeli Nailatikau announced the Tui Macuata as the new President of the Republic of Fiji.
They said he was “promoted by God”.
Tui Bua Ratu Makutu Nagagavoka said the vanua of Cakaunitabua had pledged its support behind Ratu Williame.
“The vanua of Bua will support Ratu Wiliame who also has maternal links to the district of Kubulau and we are proud to have him as our President,” he said.
“We believe that his appointment is from God and we hope that Ratu Wiliame will continue to exalt and depend on God for his guidance.”
Somosomo chief and former Cakaudrove Provincial Council chairman Ratu Jekesoni Yavalanavanua said the appointment of Ratu
Wiliame was not only for the vanua of Macuata but for Vanua Levu.
“He represents the North and we are so proud of him and we know he will do a great job despite the challenges he may face,” Ratu Jekesoni said.
Savusavu Chamber of Commerce president Ravi Chhaganlal described Ratu Wiliame as the right man for the job.
“We know he will do well and we are happy that a chief from Vanua Levu has been elected to the position,” he said.
Labasa Chamber of Commerce president Satish Kumar described the appointment as “deserving”.
“Ratu Wiliame has contributed a lot to the development of Vanua Levu and he deserved the post,” he said.
“We know that he will do more for the North.”
