TERRAIN Tamer has expanded and relocated to a new 32,100 square metre facility in Tottenham, Melbourne, complete with a newly completed four-wheel-drive test track for research and development purposes.
This large step will help allow the 45-year-old 4WD parts company to meet the rapidly increasing international demand for their parts and provide the right environment for product development.
“Terrain Tamer’s growth has been strong in recent years. Our previous headquarters of 30 years was simply unable to cope,” said general manager Jim Dean, signifying that the new facility will provide a breath of fresh air for the company, who are now exporting into five continents around the world.
Marketing manager Brent Hutchinson agrees that the move will help the company to meet demand more efficiently and speed up the often long and detailed design and manufacturing process.
He recalls, “We have seen times over the years where we have worked double shifts, or late into the night to be ahead of demand” and cites the new on-site test track as a tool that will allow Terrain Tamer to test their parts in vehicles throughout the development stages and help continue to build on the company’s already existing reputation for high quality. Terrain Tamer’s 40,000 different 4WD parts have been designed at their head office in Melbourne since 1969, and are manufactured by some of the world’s leading OEM factories.
Originally designed for vehicles touring the Australian outback, such as Bedford trucks and Layland 4WD’s, the parts range has expanded over the years into Toyota and Nissan, and now also includes many other makes and models such as Mitsubishi and Isuzu.
It’s this experience over the company’s 45 years that has seen Terrain Tamer develop the world’s largest 4WD replacement parts range, and subsequently expand their distribution around the globe.
Terrain Tamer’s range is designed for durability in everything from off-road leisure and touring to mining, farming and emergency service environments, and covers suspension, rebuild kits, gearbox, driveline, brake and clutch, filters, body parts, engine and recovery gear.
