People who work from home are not defined as those who work in a formal workplace.

This was the sentiment expressed by Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations Minister Parveen Kumar in Parliament on Monday.

The minister responded in the negative when probed by Social Democratic Liberal Party parliamentarian Aseri Radrodro about the definition of “formal workplace”.

Mr Radrodro had asked Mr Kumar if the definition of “workplace also included those who worked from home”.

“The answer is simple, no,” Mr Kumar said in response. Opposition parliamentarian Anare Jale also asked Mr Kumar about a sign at the Nausori Market which said, ‘No Jab, No Entry’.

“My question is – is the Nausori Town Council in compliance with the regulation to post that notice up?” Mr Jale asked.

“Unfortunately, I am not the Minister for Local Government, I was there before but I can tell you that the Ministry of Employment is working very closely with all the municipal councils,” the minister said in response.
