Some families struggling to make ends meet during the COVID-19 crisis want to see the price of basic food items reduced in the 2021-2022 national budget.
Karishma Bhan of Nadera in Nasinu says the outbreak has hit the pockets of low income earning Fijians. “There are families like mine who are struggling,” the 32-year-old said.
“It is important that the prices of basic food items are reduced so that the poor people of this country can afford to put food on the table.”
Mukul Sharma of Wailea St, Vatuwaqa in Suva said it was critical Government “thinks about its poor people”.
“I am worried about how I will provide for my family if this crisis continues,” the 48-year-old said.
“I hope Government thinks about us poor people in the budget.”
Attorney-General and Economy Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum is scheduled to announce the 2021-2022 national budget on July 16.
