SHE’S rarely seen in public without a hat, but did Queen Elizabeth’s latest millinery choice cause an international incident?
As the French put on a rare display of royal fever as the Queen arrived for a three-day visit to mark the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings, there was little evidence on the surface of the chain of events her arrival had set in place.
But it’s been revealed French authorities had to change transport arrangements for the monarch because her hat was too big to fit in French President Francois Hollande’s car.
Instead of his usual Citroën DS5, Mr Hollande was forced to take an ageing Renault Vel Satis out of the garage to transport Queen Elizabeth and her husband Prince Philip down the Champs Elysée, The Times reports.
British officials pulled out a Bentley to drive the Queen to a ceremony at the Arc de Triomphe which had no problems accommodating her hat — this one in pink to match her dress.
