The search for the remaining five missing members of the fishing vessel Tiro 2 has been suspended.

The Republic of Fiji Navy issued a statement saying the decision was not taken lightly and took into account several key considerations.

“The number of days passed since those missing went overboard and the information received that none were wearing a life jacket. The weather experienced within the search area during the search, the distance of their last known position to the nearest point of land and the vast area covered by both aerial and surface assets,” the RFN stated.

The Fiji Navy is continuing to advise ships in the area to report on any sightings.

“RFNS Savenaca is still operating out of the area of interest.

“Our team will continue to work with the Fiji Police Force and assist them with their investigations on circumstances surrounding this unfortunate incident.”
