Fiji has reported one new case of COVID-19.

This is based on results from four testing facilities – Tamavua Twomey Hospital, CWM Hospital, Labasa Hospital and Lautoka Hospital.

The main testing site, the Fiji Centre for Disease Control (CDC) is temporarily closed for decontamination after three administration staff tested positive for the virus yesterday.

As for the case announced tonight, he is a household member of the Lakena cases reported earlier and he was already in isolation at Navua Hospital when he registered a positive result.

Ministry of Health and Medical Services permanent secretary Dr James Fong said given his test upon entering quarantine was negative, he was not viewed as a high-risk for wider transmission.

Last night, Fiji reported four new cases of COVID-19, three of whom were staff of the Fiji CDC.

Quick facts announced this evening:

  • 1 new case reported
  • 5 recoveries
  • 48 active cases in isolation
  • 6 are border quarantine cases
  • 29 are locally transmitted cases
  • 13 are being investigated to determine sources of transmission
