FIJI 7s coach Gareth Baber expects more players to join the national training squad as the Fiji Rugby Union Sevens Series heads into round three.

Baber was impressed with the input of the coaches saying they showed a lot of good stuff. He said they had 15 contracted players and would like the number to increase to 20.

“There are many players out there that are impressing me but most notably I look at the players who are in the training squad,” Baber said.

“We are only in round two and round three will come. We have 15 contracted players at the moment and I want to see that move to around 20. We have an extended training squad which takes us to about 30.

“So yes you could see players coming into that.”

Two teams, Wadigi Salvo and newcomers Bukuya, impressed Baber.

He said some of the teams that were strong in the first tournament of the series had a battle on their hands yesterday.

“Some of the teams that have gone well in the previous tournament are now getting a battle which is good to see,” Baber said.

“I have seen change in some personnel in the teams as well. I have my theories on teams holding players to play in Nawaka next week with the money involved.

“That goes on and I understand where the teams are.”
