YOUTH and Sports Minister Parveen Kumar said 2416 youths had been assisted through a government program established last year.

He made the comment in Parliament last Friday while responding to a question from Assistant Minister for Agriculture, Waterways and Environment Viam Pillay.

Mr Pillay had asked for an update on the youth farm program. In response, Mr Kumar said the program was launched at Nasau Youth Training Centre in July last year.

“This program is meant to deal with unutilised land, which is given to youths for agricultural purposes,” Mr Kumar said.

“The program focuses on improving the livelihood in the community, strengthen food security and providing employment.

“Until today, we have assisted 2416 youths throughout the country.”

Mr Kumar said his ministry had started a monitoring and evaluation exercise to find out the benefits of the program.
