In 2020 listed entities paid out a total of $32.58 million in dividends when compared with $62.26m paid out in 2019.

The South Pacific Stock Exchange (SPX) stated that last year saw COVID-19 pandemic forcing listed entities to reassess their financial projections amid the rapidly evolving business landscape.

According to the SPX acting CEO Pretesh Prasad, there has been a rapid uptick in the number of listed entities undertaking a decision to delay or suspend dividend payments to preserve assets and capital.

In their 2020 stock market review the SPX noted that for 2020 while seven listed entities maintained similar levels of dividend payments from the previous year and six entities declared a lower dividend, the remaining seven listed entities did not declare any dividends during 2020.
