Two new members of Parliament were sworn in yesterday morning.

Speaker of Parliament Ratu Epeli Nailatikau urged Tanya Waqanika of the Social Democratic Liberal Party and Virendra Lal of the FijiFirst party to prioritise the interest of the nation above their own.

He made the comment while the duo took their oaths.

The Electoral Commission had approved the appointment of Ms Waqanika after the resignation of former Opposition leader Sitiveni Rabuka this week.

The commission also gave the nod to Mr Lal to fill the position made vacant by Vijendra Prakash after he stepped down as well.

Ms Waqanika polled 1933 votes in the 2018 General Election while Mr Lal had 519 votes.
