THE squash fraternity of Fiji is mourning the loss of former national champion Warren Yee.
Yee passed away at the CWM Hospital on Wednesday night after losing the battle against brain tumour.
The former Fiji Squash Association president was a renowned player and coach and also won the 2007 South Pacific Games gold medal.
He is survived by his daughter Alison Yee who said Warren wanted to play at the Pacific Games in Papua New Guinea next year.
“Before he got sick, he was talking about the Pacific Games and wanted to go as a coach but then when he started playing again, he wanted to go as a player,” she said.
“But know that he is no more, I want to go in his place as a player to carry his legacy.”
She said her father was her main source of inspiration and his passing would motivate her to become a better player.
Alison thanked the squash community for their support.
“They were there at the hospital before and after his passing. They have been really supportive.
“They even agreed to pay for hospital and funeral costs and we really appreciate their gesture.”
The funeral will be held tomorrow.
