The Rescue Co-ordination Centre (RCC) for the Fiji Navy conducted a medevac of a sailor who was injured in the high seas last week.

The seriously injured sailor was on board a purse seiner and was quickly transported to Kiribati, Tarawa, and airlifted by the Royal New Zealand Air Force.

According to the Fiji Navy, the case was quiet complicated given the current COVID-19 pandemic environment that countries faced.

The seriously injured sailor arrived safely to Fiji onboard the RNZ Air Force 130 Hercules and was handed over to the Ministry of Health officials who waited to receive the patient.

According to the Fiji Navy, the injured sailor was treated at the Intensive Care Unit in Lautoka.

The Fiji Navy acknowledged the New Zealand High Commission to Fiji, the New Zealand Air Force, Kiribati officials, Ministry Of Defence national Security and Policing, CAAF Fiji and hardworking staff members of the Fiji Ministry of Health and Medical services for the prompt and timely assistance on the complex case.
