The Fiji National University (FNU) has confirmed that a review is being done and focused on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in technical colleges.

FNU’s acting vice chancellor Dr William May said the review concentrated on areas of learning and teaching resources, program quality, teacher qualifications, student numbers and facilities.

“We are at the end stages of the review exercise and are unable to disclose any information at this point without following due process,” he said.

“Once all the processes are complete, the university will be making a public statement in this regard.”

Two weeks ago, Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum spoke on this issue while on Vanua Levu.

“The reason why FNU has started this is because some teachers don’t have the right qualification to teach the courses in these technical colleges,” he said.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said some technical colleges may close while some may remain open but would offer better courses for students.

He assured parents of Dreketi Central College this review did not include vocational programs offered in secondary schools.
