The New South Wales government in Australia is offering a $755,000 reward for information on the alleged murder of a former Fiji citizen.
Monika Chetty died in 2014 after she was set alight and was found lying in a bush land reserve, suffering serious acid burns of up to 80 per cent of her body.
She was implicated in a visa scam and weeks before her death, had confided to friends that she feared for her life.
Her alleged death is still being investigated with the $755,000 announced for information that can lead to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for Ms Chetty’s death.
“It has been really hard not having my mum here for special occasions and milestones,” said Ms Chetty’s son, Daniel Chetty.
“There has to be someone out there who has information that can help investigators – I urge them to come forward so we can find out why my mother was taken from us.”
NSW Minister for Police and Emergency Services, David Elliott said the reward was a significant announcement.
“It’s been more than six years since Monika Chetty’s suspicious death shocked the community and we all want to find out how such a crime could have happened,” he said.
