The trial of a Congolese national accused of murdering his wife last year will be held in April next year.

The matter involving Kiala Lusaka was called before High Court in Suva judge Justice Daniel Goundar yesterday.

Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions Elizabeth Rice told Justice Goundar there was a likelihood the State would call as many as 34 witnesses.

Through an interpreter, Mr Lusaka said he did not want an early trial date because his lawyer would not be ready.

The court was also informed the accused would use insanity as a defence.

The accused, who allegedly murdered 44-yearold Jennifer Downes in Suva, will be represented by Laurel Vaurasi in the two-week trial which begins on April 12, 2021.
