ASSEMBLIES of God High School is aiming to win its first medal in the Coca-Cola Games this year.
The school has been participating in the annual secondary schools athletics meet for some years but is yet to win a medal.
Yesterday, the school held its inter-house competition at the ANZ Stadium to select the best athletes for the zone meet to qualify for the Coca-Cola Games.
School head of PEMAC department Ashish Prasad said they held the inter-house on synthetic track after a lapse of 14 years.
He said they wanted to expose their athletes to the best available facility.
“We have about 600 athletes altogether competing in the track and field events,” Prasad said.
“We are encouraging participation and we hope to send more athletes to the Games this year.” Prasad said they had a lot of potential in the school but they needed to be nurtured “in the right way”.
He said they would be preparing their athletes for the upcoming zone meet accordingly.
“Our plan is to win a medal. It doesn’t matter which event it comes from, we just want to win a medal.
“Our strength is divided equally in the track and field events.”
Meanwhile, Kings won the inter-house competition which also had Apostles, Judges and Prophet competing.
