The Fiji 7s team head coach Gareth Baber reminded his players on the importance of becoming an international rugby player during these difficult situations.

Baber said it’s not about fame neither is it to train to be the best in the field, but a platform of building a good character that would be recognised in life after rugby.

“It is a difficult time but obviously being a professional rugby player is far beyond what is given to you on a sheet. “It’s pretty much what you want to do with your life, it’s a lifestyle choice and we are blessed to be in this position to make the most of the choices we get,” said Baber.

The Welshman continues to monitor his players’ performances preparing them for the continuation of the series. “We catch up every couple of days on a messenger page that we use, we communicating with them and checking out on their performances,” he said.

“They’ve all been provided training programs that we believe would be practical for them to do back in their villages and obviously taking the government directive aligned to that and the ability to train on their own.”

Meanwhile Baber’s contract will end in January next year and the Fiji Rugby Union board will review his performances before they make any decisions leading up to the Olympic Games in Tokyo in July 2021.
