Due to the state that the world is in, we should be encouraged to do our part in ensuring the sustainability of our environment and its resources for our current and future generations.
These were the sentiments shared by Fiji’s Minister for Environment Dr Mahendra Reddy while opening the first National Environment Council (NEC) meeting for 2020 at the Holiday Inn in Suva today.
“Members of the NEC, the above mandate clearly articulate how important this Council is for the delivery of the broader vision of protecting our environment for both the current and future generations,” Mr Reddy said.
“It is our mission to ensure that all our environmental and natural resource management policies are effective, sustainable and are in the best interest of all Fijians and our future generations.”
The Council is a legislated body under the Environment Management Act (EMA) 2005 with high-level representations at the permanent secretary level from line ministries, CEO from the iTLTB, representatives from the business communities, academic institutions and NGOs.
