IF you find a teacher drinking alcohol or yaqona, please report them to us.
This was the plea from West divisional education officer Joseva Gavidi to school committee members in villages across the country.
He said teachers had been warned against consuming alcohol or yaqona in their government-assigned quarters.
“We have seen teachers, especially in rural villages, are not reporting to school early or are not doing their work well because they were drinking grog the night before,” he said.
“The practice before was some teachers could drink grog with villagers in their quarters.
“We’re not allowing that any more.
“Village school committees have to understand that the teacher is there to do a job and that is to teach.”
Mr Gavidi said the Education Ministry would engage with school committees to assist in the monitoring of teachers.
“We hope that you can assist us with this.
“The ministry will soon be visiting schools to do our assessments and to also talk to members of the school committees.”
