A CHINESE construction service contracted by the Government to carry out some of its major projects claims the roads they constructed in various places within Fiji did not not have potholes in the past.

This claim surfaced after concerned residents questioned the company’s credibility during an EIA public consultation on a proposed asphalt mixing plant at Lami Catholic Parish Hall on Saturday.

China Railway No.5 Engineering Group Safety and traffic manager Nadeem Shah said they had been operating in Fiji for more than a decade.

“If you see all our roads, the ones that were built by China Railway No.5 Engineering Group, you wouldn’t see a pothole,” he said.

“A very good example is Wainibokasi Road; it has withstood all the floods, still not a single pothole.

“So please don’t try to attack the company directly, I don’t want to step on anyone’s shoes or something, but China Railway is only here to serve the people of Fiji.”
