NEWLY-INDUCTED deputy general secretary of the Methodist Church in Fiji Reverend Iliesa Naivalu says he is ready to take up his new role.
“I will continue with what the church stands for and what the current leadership aims for the Methodist Church,” he said after the induction ceremony at Suva’s Centenary Methodist Church yesterday.
He said his new role came with responsibilities and challenges he was ready to encounter.
“It is not an easy task serving around almost 300,000 members, but I will just continue with the role given to me,” he said.
“We are facing a very challenging time and the church has to be very courageous also in a way to be more relevant in the time that we are in with regards to all the social ills we face in society.
“With the role given to me, I will always be there to give the best to the church.”
Originally from Yalobi, Yasawa, Mr Naivalu succeeds the late Reverend Jeremaia Waqainabete who passed away early this year. Mr Naivalu is a former civil servant and journalist.
