GERMAN soccer fans in the country have a reason to celebrate after a local television company secured the rights to air one of the world’s popular football league competitions.

Mai TV Fiji Limited has secured the rights to air the Bundesliga competition which features the reigning UEFA Champions Bayern Munich.

Mai TV will air the remaining matches of the 2013/14 season and the 2014/15 season.

Mai TV received the rights from DFL Sports Enterprises which is the international agents for the competition and a subsidiary of the Bundesliga itself.

“We are extremely happy to have secured this agreement and are so looking forward to bringing all these wonderful matches to viewers here in Fiji,” Mai TV’s general manager Marc Santos said in a statement.

“This will be the first time to have the prestigious competition televised in the Pacific islands and I believe its confirmation that Fiji’s great love for football has been noticed internationally.”

Mai TV already has rights to several FIFA events in Fiji in 2013/14 including the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup, the Under -17 World Cup, the U17 Women’s World Cup, the U20 Women’s World Cup and the largest event on earth, the FIFA World Cup in June.

“We are in discussions with both FBC and Fiji TV about a shared broadcast platform for the FIFA World Cup to ensure everyone can enjoy the tournament in their homes, so we are just so excited to have been given the chance to present the Bundesliga in the same,” Santos added.
