TWENTY-SIX schools from around the Suva area turned up to the Fiji National University’s engineering and science fair held at FNU Derrick campus in Suva.
The two-day event featured a range of educational displays from the eight schools within the College of Engineering, Science and Technology (CEST).
With this year’s theme of preparing, mobilising and upskilling for the new industrial revolution 4.0, the institution has encouraged more female students to enrol in male dominant courses and help drive technological development in the engineering and science areas.
CEST acting dean Salabogi Mavoa said they were expecting an increasing number of women involvement for these courses in the next 10 years.
“For the last 10 years, we have had about 20 per cent of female students enrolled in these courses. We are expecting an increase in the next 10 to 15 years,” he said.
Nelly Croker, a Year 13 student of St Joseph’s Secondary School, said this year’s FNU science fair was an interesting one as the displays offered a lot of educational information.
“This is one of the most interesting science fairs that I’ve attended because the display has offered so many educational information and I’m looking forward to the rest of the tour,” she said.
The science fair ended yesterday.
