THE President of the Methodist Church in Fiji and Rotuma, Reverend Dr Epineri Vakadewavosa this morning reminded leaders of the church not to use tradition as an excuse.
He said tradition was at times used as an excuse by church leaders to justify the abuse of yaqona consumption.
In his opening address this morning during the Bose Ko Viti (annual Methodist Church conference) at the Centenary Church in Suva, Rev Vakadewavosa reiterated to church ministers that the physical condition of the place of worship is the closest reflection of one’s faith.
He said there was a need for the church to address this issue.
Mr Vakadewavosa said the issue of yaqona consumption was mainly an issue in church minister’s quarters and church halls.
“We have agreed in the Bose Ko Viti 2013 that yaqona consumption should end in the two venues mentioned above,” he said.
“I am glad that in many divisions, yaqona consumption in church minister’s residence is not allowed.”
Dozens of church leaders are part of this long week meeting.
