THERE’S a need for public transportation so that the school children can get to school.

Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Disaster Management and Meteorological Services, Jone Usamate stressed this during his joint visit with the Minister for Health and Medical Services, Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete to the district of Bemana in Nadroga yesterday.

“There are some children in this area that walk 15 kilometers which will have an impact on their schooling,” Mr Usamate said.

“One of the roads here is an existing Fiji Roads Authority road, and if it’s an existing Government road then there’s a budget for that,” he said.

“Some of the other roads are not Government roads but because in the past, RSL used to use the roads, we have to make sure to upgrade it so the children can still have access to the RSLs to get them to school on time so they don’t have to walk that distance.”
