THE Fiji Performing Rights Association (FPRA) received a major boost ahead of its preparations for the 2019 FPRA Awards Night later in May.
This is after Fiji Television Limited and FPRA signed a partnership yesterday which will see Fiji TV as the official broadcaster for the awards night.
FPRA director Seru Serevi thanked Fiji TV for their continuous support towards the music industry in the country.
“We are grateful. Our relationship goes back to 1994 when we started. This year we are expecting a bigger and better awards night,” Mr Serevi said.
“It will be another night of celebration. We will come together, celebrate and honour the work of our artists for the year 2018.
“We have a total of 15 categories. Our judges met two weeks ago and the results had been set. We are also having a concert at Churchill Park in Lautoka next Saturday where we will announce the top three in each category. It will be the nominees’ announcement show.”
Fiji TV chief executive officer Karen Lobendahn said they had always tried their best to support the local music industry in the country.
“We continue to do this and we believe that we need to give a platform to local artists and musicians to be appreciated more,” Ms Lobendahn said.
“I think our platform does exactly this. This partnership has grown over the years. What we have done is that we have exposed artists not only locally but abroad as well.”
She added the partnership would not only help them to stream out within Fiji but outside as well.
The FPRA awards is scheduled to be held on May 13 at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva.
