ST Thomas High School is confident of giving Natabua High School and Jasper Williams High School a run for their money in this year’s Lautoka Zone.

The school finished second in both the girls and boys division at last year’s zone meet but school official Avinesh Ajendra Chand said the side would surprise the two West giants this year.

Defending champion Monfort House was in top form at Lautoka’s Churchill Park yesterday and look set to retain its title.

He said theĀ inter-house competition was a platform for the team’s campaign at the zone meet.

Chand said he was impressed with the talent on display during the competition.

“Today is a great day and we are very fortunate to compete in a good condition,” he said.

“We need to have good competition so we can know where to work on before the zone meet.

“ThisĀ inter-house competition was our benchmark and it is where we gauge our children to represent us at the zone and the Coke Games.

“Today’s results … we are meeting the required expectation and we are overwhelmed with the turnout.”

Chand said the competition and rivalries among the athletes would bring together a tough team at the zone meet.

“Last year we came second to Jasper and Natabua even though the gold medal tally was a big difference.

“But we want to assure our parents and students that we will give good competition to Natabua and Jasper. Definitely, we will also unearth some star athletes during the zone and Coke meets.”

The zone meets will be held next month.
