DAIRY farmers of Tailevu North have been requested to liaise more effectively with the Ministry for Agriculture and its stakeholders to progress and develop the dairy industry.
Permanent Secretary for Agriculture, David Kolitagane highlighted this during his consultative visit to livestock farmers in the Central Division earlier this week.
Mr Kolitagane informed farmers about the services and resources available within the Ministry and also requested farmers to liaise more effectively with the Ministry and its stakeholders to progress and develop the dairy industry.
“I know there is a lot of sacrifice being made by farmers and even though we’re offering Government support and expertise, there is still room for improvement and we want to deliver our service more effectively to benefit you.
“During my visits to farmers and processors, we stress the need to work smartly and to coordinate more efficiently with each other, especially from the Ministry’s perspective, in order to lift the sector to another level to realize its potential,” Mr Kolitagane said.
He also highlighted Government’s growth assessment over nine years indicating an average growth rate of 2.5 per cent to three per cent, of which a significant contribution can be attributed to the agriculture sector.
Mr Kolitagane visited farmers of Tonia, Waidawara, and Sawakasa in Tailevu and also held informal discussions with farmers of the Waidalice Dairy Cluster, before meeting with the Fiji Cooperative Dairy Company Limited (FCDCL).
