DAYS before his son was to celebrate his 24th birthday, Shareen Sharma is now making arrangements for his child’s final rites.
Divnesh Sharma, 23, a civil engineering student, his grandmother Lalita Devi, 75, and her sister Bas Mati, 95, were killed in a car accident at Navau, Ba, on Friday night.
Mr Sharma’s wife Roshni Lata, 48, is admitted at the Lautoka Hospital in a critical condition.
The news of the deaths has shocked Mr Sharma, who said his small family was broken.
A grieving Mr Sharma also said they were disappointed with the response time from police, who attended the incident after an hour.
“They left home at about 3pm on Friday and went to visit some relatives in Ba,” he said.
“My aunt wanted to visit so they went together. I was supposed to go but I decided to stay home.”
He said his wife was presently on life support.
The incident was particularly triggering for Mr Sharma as he lost his younger brother in a car accident in 2010.
Police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro said it was alleged that the private vehicle driven by the 23-year-old failed to stop and made a right turn in front of a bus, resulting in the accident. Presently, the road death toll stands at 66 compared to 66 for the same period last year.
