UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights and the Environment David Boyd has urged Fiji to both continue and increase its actions to protect human rights and the environment in the country.

Mr Boyd said this while speaking at a press conference in Suva yesterday.

He said Fiji was acutely vulnerable to the impacts of climate change and associated natural disasters.

“Rising sea levels, droughts, floods and tropical storms have already inflicted extensive damage ,” Mr Boyd said.

During his visit to the country, he met with Government officials, the national human rights commission, representatives of civil society, and other experts, as well as environmental activists.

Mr Boyd is expected to present his detailed report on the visit to the UN Human Rights Council in March 2020.
