EIGHTY-FIVE development players were part of the induction ceremony by the Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) under the elite player pathway program which started yesterday at the Bergengren House in Pender Street, Suva.
FRU general manager Geoff Webster said the boys should be impressed with themselves for being part of an academy which breeds prominent rugby players.
“You all are sitting here as the future of Fijian rugby and as players and members of this academy, you represent Fijian rugby,” he said.
“When I think of the future of Fijian rugby in years to come or who may be the future Flying Fijian players, I have no doubt that we have them right in this room,” said Webster.
The program has produced some of Fiji rugby’s top names such as Frank Lomani, Eroni Mawi, Mesulame Dolokoto and Veremalua Vugakoto.
Webster encouraged the boys to set a high standard for Fiji rugby as they developed themselves as players.
“The challenge for you is to use rugby to lead a great life for you and for your family.
“And you are given here the opportunity to make the most of it,” said Webster.
The program was divided into three groups which were the Elite group, Apprentice Academy and the Elite Player Pathway Group which consists of the under-16 national team.
