THE Fiji Cancer Society has so far spent $140,000 on transportation cost for its patients this year.
This was revealed by the President of the Fiji Cancer Society, Phillip Low during the Pinktober morning tea at Asco Motors in Nabua, this morning.
He said they had raised $290,000 last year as an organization as they are not funded by government.
Mr Low said they are looking to open up a second office in the Western Division to have their presence in Lautoka and help the patients that side.
He stressed that the main challenge they still face in getting people screened and tested early.
Asco Motors donated $2,500 to the Fiji Cancer Society this morning and Chief Executive Officer and Director for Asco Motors, Craig Sims expressed that they will do anything they can to help the Cancer Society.
He said he had met cancer patients last year while attending Pinktober events and saw the struggles the patients and their family members faced.
Mr Sims said they came on board with the Fiji Cancer Society last year as an automotive partner for the Fiji Cancer Society.
He said to get the morning tea organized they got corporate bodies to come in and buy tables where by it was $50 per chair and this was to raise funds.
