FIJI Day is a reminder of Fiji’s links to the crown and a celebration of the legacy the British left behind.
This was highlighted by Opposition leader Ro Teimumu Kepa in a statement issued for the 48th anniversary of Fiji’s independence.
Fiji Day is being observed around the country today, which is marked as a public holiday.
Ro Teimumu said the fact that Fiji’s transition from a colony to a dominion was peaceful spoke volume about the then-leadership and quest to allow the necessary space for evolution of spirit of harmony and national unity.
