HAVING been in the music industry for quite some time, Pieter Tuhoro knows all too well the struggles associated with being an artist.
Better known by his stage name Pieter T, the Kiwi singer, songwriter and producer was in Nadi last week for a concert with fellow musician Fred Faafou (Deach).
Tuhoro said the plethora of talent in the Pacific was amazing and could be exposed through strategic alliances with established artists. “I think it’d be great for some of these guys to reach out to us for collaborations — that’s one thing that a lot of the artists here don’t think to do — and that is to reach out,” he said.
“I did collaborations with some of the guys from Pago Pago, American Samoa, and they ended up getting some guys from Papua New Guinea, like Justin Wellington on it.
“We haven’t had any guys from Fiji reach out so I’d always be down for collaborations, especially females, female duets.
“That is something that is missing a lot from the scene at the moment, the female reggae or R&B artists so if they’re out there, reach out.” Tuhoro said one of the best things about music and songs was that they travelled to people in the most unlikely of places and along the way, could open up opportunities.
“Songs will end up in the UK, Australia and Fijians in America. I’ve noticed that with Polynesian and Melanesian people, our music travels to where they are located. I ended up getting to the US with my music. My songs were sent to channels like people in New Zealand, to family in Australia then to Hawaii so music has the ability, it’s weird, it’s like seeds, it travels on the wind.” He said artists interested in collaborations could always contact them.
