LEENA Pratt is looking forward to participating in the UCI/WCC cycling coaching course in Aigle, Switzerland.
Pratt is the first Fijian to be awarded an Olympic scholarship for coaches participating in coaching certificate 1 and 2 and mechanics level 1 at the World Cycling Centre (WCC).
Pratt, a relationship officer with Westpac Banking Corporation in Suva, hopes to enhance her knowledge and skills — particularly in the technical side of cycling.
“Being selected for this course is a privilege and I am keen to share my experience with the cycling fraternity,” Pratt said.
“I’ve been involved in sports for more than 20 years and have represented Fiji in swimming and triathlon.”
Pratt says although cycling is a minor sport in Fiji, interest in the sport is gaining momentum.
The current committee has worked tirelessly to ensure the administrative, technical and safety aspects of cycling is aligned with the Oceania Cycling Confederation policies.
“I hope cycling will be re-introduced into the Pacific Games to give our local athletes an opportunity to compete at Oceania level.”
The course will begin on March 3 and end on March 17.
