STUDENTS, teachers, ex-scholars, families and friends of Ratu Sukuna Memorial School today commemorated the Ratu Sir Josefa Lalabalavu Vanayaliyali Sukuna Day.
The program began with the students of RSMS performing the traditional ceremony of welcome for their chief guest, the permanent secretary for the Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development, National Disaster Management and Meteorological Services Meleti Bainimarama.
Assistant Principle Isikeli Vuniwaqa told Fiji Times Online that they wanted to ensure that today, the students would commemorate the life of Ratu Sukuna.
“As we all know, there is no more public holiday but for the school, this is something we have done annually to ensure that our students commemorate the life of Ratu Sir Lala Sukuna and what he actually did for our beloved Fiji, as a Statesman and a scholar,” Mr Vuniwaqa said.
Hundreds gathered at the school to witness the various activities the students participated in, which included oratory, showcasing of the different traditional attires for each confederacy and traditional dances.
