RENOWNED choreographer and dancer Rishi Sharma gave a practical demonstration on the different forms of dance techniques at a workshop held at the Indian High Commission on Wednesday night.

Mr Sharma is the leader of the Bollywood Dance Group which performed in the country as part of the Namaste Pasifika Festival of India celebrations.

More than 30 dance enthusiasts attended the workshop to learn the techniques necessary to improve and sharpen their dancing skills.

Speaking at the event, High Commissioner of India to Fiji Vishvas Sapkal, said the workshop was organised as part of the Namaste Pasifika Festival celebrations in the country.

Mr Sapkal thanked the group for showcasing their talent and for performing in the country.

“I want to thank Rishi Sharma and his group for a job well done and for coming over to perform in Fiji, Nauru and Tuvalu,” Mr Sapkal said.

He said the local Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) dance group also had a chance to learn from the Bollywood group.

“They performed in areas around Suva. They are a unique group and they perform traditional, Bollywood, kathak and fusion dances as well.

“They get a lot of acclaim from their audience,” he said.

He added another dance group, the Masti Dance Group, was sponsored by the commission to attend months training with renowned Indian dancer and choreographer, specialising in contemporary dance, Terence Lewis.

He said as part of the celebrations for the festival, seven events had been completed so far.
