Vanuatu’s first
Johnson Naviti has been commissioned by the president, Tallis Obed Moses as Vanuatu’s first High Commissioner to New Zealand.
Mr Naviti was appointed to the role after previously serving as director general to the prime minister’s office and serving in the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat from 2002 to 2014.
Solomons’ Garland
Solomon Islands Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade (MFAET) says Sir Trevor Garland’s position as the country’s Honorary Consul in Sydney was relinquished in 2014 and has since had no involvement with him on related matters.
The clarification comes after Australian police arrested and charged Mr Garland on Thursday last week in Sydney.
Tonga’s Cabinet
The final two cabinet positions in Tonga have been announced, with Prime Minister ‘Akilisi Pohiva being confirmed as Minister for Foreign Affairs.
Noble Representative Lord Ma’afu is the Minister for His Majesty’s Armed Forces. The two portfolios were the only ones not allocated and sworn in during the first sitting of parliament last week.
