STUDENTS wishing to pursue their studies in journalism at the Fiji National University will now have to wait or look for another field of study.
FNU vice-chancellor Professor Nigel Healey confirmed the university was undergoing major transitions and would not take these courses this semester.
“The Certificate IV in Media and Journalism and diploma courses offered by the College of Humanities and Education is still undergoing the required changes and regrettably it will not be offered in Semester 1, 2018,” he said.
“Currently, the university is in transition from trimester to semester mode of program delivery.”
Prof Healey said the college was also looking at recruiting more staff members to enhance the delivery of these programs.
He said the university would continue with the program after its overhaul.
“The university is confident that when the revised program and structure is re-launched, students will continue to benefit from this program and excel in the media and public relations fields,” he said.
The university would be transitioning from trimester to semester mode to enhance their quality and effectiveness, Prof Healey said.
“All undergraduate programs from 2018 will only be offered in semester mode and as a result, all FNU undergraduate programs have undergone significant restructuring and updating to enhance their quality and effectiveness.
“We know that our journalism program is popular and has been developed in partnership with the local media industry,” he said.
Meanwhile, the university, under the College of Humanities and Education, was also working on developing a journalism degree program, which is expected to be launched in the near future.
