I WROTE this piece before the Friday night game.
The week is a short prep week for us. With many boys carrying niggling small injuries these weeks can be stressful.
The New Zealand victory needs to be quickly swept aside as we are now facing off the biggest Goliath on the biggest stage. Australia in Australia. The venue is Suncorp Stadium.
The ground that hosts Brisbane Broncos and will be holding many Fijian fans tonight.
By the time this is out the results will have been in. Hopefully the inspiration we have instilled in others leads everyone on to bigger, better things. We have shown that there is not only something special in Fiji but the Pacific with our Tongan brothers progressing strongly. Just because we are seen as the minority doesn’t mean that we are not strong also. Our time will come. We are strong-minded and strong-willed.
Nerves are lingering once again and I will have two thoughts in mind before the game. One will be my dad’s old saying in “have fun in doing what you are doing” and the other will be of Ben Ryan talking about the 7s boys before they won “they were all going out to enjoy what they were doing”.
We are here for a good time not a long time. Have fun!
A huge inspiration for me was Rupeni Caucaunibuca in the 2003 RWC. I cried after they lost to Scotland and I said one day I will play for Fiji.
Hopefully we have instilled the same belief and drive in our next generation of Fiji. Keep striving to be better!!
Vinaka family.
Strength to strength.
Love Eloni!
