PAPUA New Guinea’s Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill, has invited Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) leaders to join him in Port Moresby where the 2018 Summit will be held.
Mr O’Neill has been meeting regional heads of government in Danang Vietnam this week where he reassured President Moon of Papua New Guinea’s support for peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and around the region.
He said APEC leaders had supported some key initiatives to increase the free flow of trade and investment, which will stimulate economic activity, create jobs, reduce costs of production, and connect markets.
He said businesses in the Highlands of Papua New Guinea could now sell and ship hand-made products to distributors in the United States who can retail them online, opening global markets and bringing greater profits to their communities.
Mr O’Neill said connectivity was changing the way regional trade was done and the theme for the 2018 APEC would be “Harnessing Inclusive Opportunities, Embracing the Digital Future.”
