THE Fiji volleyball team went down to Chinese Taipei 3-0 in the 2018 FIVB Women’s World Championship —— AVC Qualification Tournament at Almaty, Kazakhstan.
Vice-captain Anaseini Seniloli said the girls had improved on their defence compared with their past games.
“We have a big game which is against the host and the girls are prepared for the game,” she said.
“The girls are ready knowing it will be a tough game since they will be playing against the hosts on their home ground.”
Seniloli thanked the supporters for the prayers and their continuous support.
Chang Li-Yun led all scorers on the board with 10 points, but Chinese Taipei utilised their entire bench for the straight set win.
“By using our bench players, It was a great opportunity for us to adjust and vary our pace,” said Chinese Taipei coach Lin Ming-Hui.
In the first set, Chang Li-Yun and captain Chen Wang-Ting led the charge for Chinese Taipei’s offence.
They sent off attacks from setter Hsieh Yi-Chen’s well orchestrated plays.
They also took advantage of their opponents’ defensive formation, as they found unmanned spots to score off both on attack and service. Chinese Taipei completed the opening set with three service aces, to finish at 25-9.
In the second set, Chinese Taipei coach Lin summoned his bench players and they delivered. Lee Tzu Ying scored from the flank as Huang Hsin-Yu struck from the middle. By the third set, Chinese Taipei’s Chang Li-Yun continued to connect while middle blocker Tseng Wan-Ling likewise contributed in attack and serve.
Fiji were unable to address their difficulty in passing the ball, as the Chinese Taipei side raced to a 25-10 finish in the final set.
Chinese Taipei led on all fronts with 45 attacks, four blocks and six service aces, with an error count of 11, to take a good advantage in qualifying for the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship in 2018.
