THE vanua of Bau in Tailevu is preparing for the traditional installment of the Roko Tui Bau next month.
Turaga na Masau Ratu Kinijoji Toganivalu confirmed that as part of their preparations, men from Kabara in the Lau Group were on Bau Island to carry out maintenance work at the Vata-ni-tawake (Burekalou or the spirit house) ahead of the traditional instalment on October 28.
“We have been meeting with the masi ni vanua who are the tribe leaders from the yavusa Vusaratu and we came to a decision that the instalment be held on October 28,” Ratu Kinijoji said.
“Preparations are in full swing and the message has already been relayed to the Vunivalu na Tui Kaba.”
The instalment will bring together the members of the Vusaratu tribe as the Roko Tui Bau is the leader of the tribe.
“Works are also underway on the Vata-ni-tawake. The men from Kabara are here to weave the ‘magimagi’ (coconut sinnets),” he said.
In an interview after the funeral of former Roko Tui Bau and Vice President, Ratu Joni Madraiwiwi, Ratu Kinijoji confirmed that Ratu Joni’s successor would be his younger brother Ratu Timoci Tavanavanua, also known as Timothy Daniel.
