THE Labasa Lawn Tennis Association has started work to revive the sport in the North.
Tennis coach Aaron Dutt said there were promising talents in the North.
“We have started providing lawn tennis clinics to school students,” he said.
He said these young players were yet to realise their full potential.
“We encourage more children to join in as this is an active sport that everyone can play,” he said.
“I feel that there is a need to revive tennis as it is a minor sport here in Labasa.”
Dutt also encouraged women to join in as the sport also relieves stress and it’s a good sport for women to play.
“The reason I suggest more women to join was basically because there are not so many women athletes who play this sport and we would like more women to train with us as we also provide basic tennis lessons,” he said.
“We encourage parents to bring in their kids by the age of six as these is the very age that they need to be taught this sport so they can later fall in love with the sport and become our next Fiji representative for tennis in the future.”
Dutt said they still wanted more children to join in.
“We are inviting students who are interested in the sport to attend training at the Subrail Park tennis court on Saturday morning,” he said.
“Students wishing to train in the sport must pay $2 for every session that they attend just to assist us pay the certified coach who conducts the training every Saturday and adults must pay $5 for evening session.”
Dutt said they were still open for more people to join.
