Tuna is an important part of the daily Fijian diet for many years now. In fact, many of us have grown enjoying Tuna as a delicious and healthy meal almost every day.
Ironically, as typical Fijians, we have grown up eating Tuna in a very limited way — minced with slices of onions and chilies and taken with either bread, root crops or over the daily dhal and rice straight out of the can.
Our fellow Fijians of Indian descent have not very long ago started using tuna for spicy curry with surwa (watery gravy) cooked with potatoes or as a dry curry by itself or in combination with potatoes and onions.
