A TWO-day conference themed ‘Come Play With Me’ is underway at the Novotel Hotel in Lami and it aims to educate, invigorate and build the capacity of social workers and allied professionals to be in a better position to deal with the trauma suffered by victims of domestic violence and other issues.

The conference targets Fijians and Australian human, social service, and education professionals in addressing the impacts of trauma on the physiological, psychological, social and spiritual well-being of people.

“Play with me is a proven child therapy and the current level of child abuse in Fiji warrants its introduction for trauma is the fun killer for our children,” Fiji’s Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Mereseini Vuniwaqa said.

Ms Vuniwaqa said the knowledge and skills that would be gained by participants from the conference would better their response to trauma caused by events like natural disasters, war, family violence, suicide, mental disorder and marital affairs.
